The Backyard Cafe – a perfect coffee spot in Cape Town

If you’re looking for a great spot to have a coffee catch up or breakfast with friends, then do yourself a favour and head to the Backyard Cafe in Bergvleit, Cape Town. My friend, Kim, had her Birthday High Tea / Brunch at the Backyard Cafe a few weeks ago and it was lovely.

After weaving through the decor/ gift shop; which is a house converted into a maze of decor delights, you discover the back garden. Sun-kissed tables are set in a tranquil yet flourishing garden which makes the quaint Backyard Cafe the perfect place to share a cup of coffee. As the back wall says:

“A cup of coffee shared with a friend is happiness tasted and time well spent.”

Their menu is varied, reasonably priced and wholesomely delicious. A highlight of the many decadent treats we enjoyed, was Kim’s special courgette birthday cake. Yes, you read correctly – a cake made from courgettes or zucchini. The sweet sponge cake had a lemon curd filling in between the two tiers and was topped with a cream cheese icing, sprinkled with pistachio crushed nuts. Heavenly!

Kim had a lovely birthday celebration and we absolutely loved the Backyard Cafe’s coffee, tasty food and gorgeous garden. Give that friend you’ve been meaning to catch up with a call and schedule your next coffee date at the Backyard Cafe.
