A weekend away to Misty Cliffs near Scarborough, Cape Town

This weekend I joined my friend and Birthday girl, Nicole, along with some of our best friends for a weekend away to Misty Cliffs near Scarborough. After work on Friday we all packed our cars, put on some good tunes and drove the 45 minute – 1 hour drive from Cape Town to Misty Cliffs in Scarborough.

Fortunately the rain stayed away and we had the perfect winter weather. We sat out in the sun admiring the gorgeous ocean view while playing card games, Balderdash and charades. We read magazines while sipping on a variety of tasty beverages and indulged in delicious food as we love to do. In the evenings, after a sunset stroll along the beach, we enjoyed braais (BBQs) and continued the birthday festivities.

I absolutely loved waking up to the sound and scent of the ocean each morning. The constant crashing waves were therapeutic and calming. Nicole even woke us up with tea and coffee one morning which was such a treat. We hopped out of our sleeping bags with cup of tea in hand and gravitated towards the front porch where the ocean view was breath-taking.

While mesmerized by the ocean, I had a great reflective moment of gratitude as I peered out at a cargo ship gliding across the horizon. I felt content to be back on land with my close friends enjoying beautiful South Africa.

These are my favourite photos from the weekend:

Misty Cliffs is a special spot for a weekend away or even a Sunday drive. It’s well-known by kite-surfers and surfers and offers spectacular views. Misty Cliffs is a quiet, peaceful and relaxing spot to enjoy the Cape coastline away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I will definitely visit there again in the near future and hope you can too.
