After a long catch up chat with two of my besties back home in Cape Town on the weekend, I was reminded of something. At times, we all tend to put too much pressure on ourselves. We place high expectations on ourselves while juggling our careers, physical well-being and social lives. Sometimes we add too many balls into the equation when we actually need to give ourselves a break. You are not a super hero so don’t try be one.
We need to remove that unnecessary pebble in our shoe and throw it to the curb for good. We need to remember to be kind to ourselves. ‘You can do anything you put your mind to but you cannot do everything’ I read somewhere the other day. Give yourself a break. Shut up that bullying voice in your head saying, “Man up, pull yourself together…work harder…you haven’t done this…you should be doing this…”
So today, I challenge you to be kind to yourself.
Give yourself a break.
If you’re exhausted then treat yourself to a good night’s sleep.
If you’ve been working overtime at the office, go for a walk outside in nature and enjoy some fresh air.
If you actually can’t be bothered to attend that social function, don’t. Politely decline and hop on the couch with some popcorn and a quality movie.
Wake up feeling happier and content with yourself.
