After working aboard M/Y Solaia on Christmas last year in the Caribbean, I vowed to be home in Cape Town with my family this year. I stuck to my word and have loved being involved in all the Christmas festivities from decorating the Christmas tree to wrapping presents and setting our Christmas lunch tables.
My family and friends have grown bored of cooking the usual Christmas lunch so a few years ago we all decided to choose a different country cuisine theme for every Christmas and Easter get-together. So far there has been an Italian Christmas, a Greek Easter, Morrocan Christmas, and a Swiss Easter. This year’s Christmas cuisine theme was Indian.
We all love Indian food and a relative, Lauren, has recently been on a yoga trip to India. This inspired our Christmas lunch menu. Each family went to so much effort and created decadent Indian dishes as seen below. I’ve just had some leftover lamb, dahl and naan bread for lunch which was even tastier than yesterday.
We also put some floating lotus flowers in our splash pool which looked so effective and followed the Indian theme. My cousin, Jean-Luc, enjoyed swimming amongst them too.
It was a lovely chilled sunny Cape Town day where we ate, drank, chatted and enjoyed being outdoors in the garden and pool. It also gave me a chance to catch up with family who I haven’t seen in a year or two too.
One content and happy Katie.
Thank you everyone who was involved for such a special Christmas lunch. We all did a superb job of the Indian theme. Any suggestions for our 2014 Easter lunch theme?
